An exhibition by Henrik Nordahl.
Trygve Lie Gallery, 317 East 52nd Street, New York.
-----------------------------------
When the day is done is a body of work inspired by Nordahl’s early days living and studying in New York and which has evolved during his time back in Norway. Through this series of works Nordahl contemplates on our relationship to time, place, seasons and weather, and how these aspects reflects our inner emotional landscapes.
The titles of the works are borrowed from lyrics written by English singer-song-writer Nick Drake who passed away at a very young age in the year 1974. In his texts he uses weather, seasons and the passing of days as metaphors for our emotions and our time on this planet.
Music has always had a central role in Nordahl's life and he is inspired by its power to stir our emotions so seemingly effortlessly. In this exhibition he has approached the work in a similar way, playing with rhythms, harmonies, composition and intuition.
All the materials used in the work come from building materials - the things that confine our living spaces and define the border between the outside world and where we shelter ourselves from the elements.
A special thanks to the people, without whom this exhibition would not have been possible:
The Norwegian Seamen’s Church, Adrian Axel, Don Porcaro, Trond Nordahl, Guy Grabowsky, Adam Swanson, Mina Wang, and my dear friends and family both in Norway and New York whose love and support does not go unnoticed.
